BACKGROUND: Angama Mara is a new owner-run luxury game lodge located in Kenya, high above Africa’s Great Rift Valley overlooking the Maasai Mara. The lodge consists of two intimate camps of 15 tented suites each, a private airfield, and access to the Mara below. The name Angama is the Swahili word for “suspended in mid-air”, which is an apt description for this dream destination. The identity is sophistically reminiscent of the African motifs the Mara exhibits, and exudes the brand’s essence: authenticity.

BACKGROUND: Growthpoint is a property investment holding company and are the largest listed South African property company on the JSE by market capitalisation and assets. The brand required a distinctive, memorable, and clear icon to accompany the existing wordmark. The iconic ‘G’ is represented as a lens through which everything should be viewed in order to deliver value, commit to looking ahead to foresee obstacles, and smooth the way for customers to grow.

BACKGROUND: Pan & Lyra is a retail and wholesale bakery situated in the heart of Ghana. It was named after two characters from the children’s fictional trilogy ‘His Dark Materials’ by Philip Pullman. The look and feel of the brand is inspired by this story. The Pan & Lyra identity encapsulates the brand’s playful quality and holds true to the essence of the brand; ‘intriguing’. The strong stance of the two characters mirrors the formidable values of the company as well as the importance of relationships.

BACKGROUND: The Waterberg Observatory is a key feature of Leobo Private Reserve, and is situated within the main house. The identity takes its cue from the reserve's name Leobo, this is Northern Sotho for 'chameleon'. The fully automated copper dome houses two different types of telescopes - a 20 inch corrected Dahl Kirkham for looking at stars, Planets and Nebulae and an 8 inch Hydrogen Alpha scope for looking directly at the sun. Not only is the observatory used for guests’ enjoyment of the stars, it is capable of producing world class images, which makes it a prime tool for astronomical research.

BACKGROUND: The Peech, a boutique hotel located in the chic suburb of Melrose, opened its doors in November 2004. The property was initially a private residence built in the 1950s, and had only changed owners once. While the hotel underwent an extensive transformation to accommodate modern travellers, the personality of the property still remains.

BACKGROUND: The New Black had the opportunity to work with Rory Sweet, a British entrepreneur with an eccentric take on adventure, steering clear of the safari-cliche. Leobo is situated in the Waterberg region of South Africa, a 12,000-acre reserve overlooking the Palala Valley and features two unique lodges. The Leobo Private Reserve forges a harmonious union with it’s natural surroundings; aptly named in Northern Sotho after nature’s most adaptive and enchanting creature, the chameleon. The principle lodge, The Observatory, was developed by the acclaimed architecture studio Silvio Rech Lesley Carstens Architecture & Interiors, and the photography by Dook.

BACKGROUND: Ewia means ‘sun’ in Akan, a West African language. It is also the name of this unique jewellery range, that harnesses the characteristics of both the sun and precious African gold. The jewellery was developed and handcrafted by the Goldsmith at Aurum Design. Manufactured specially for the Gold of Africa Museum shop, it captures the spirit and unique look of the indigenous West African Jewellery that is part of the Museum Collection. The gold chosen for the collection is 18ct Gold, representing the fineness of 750 parts of pure Gold.

Biologically, the synapse is the facilitator of an electrical or chemical communication between two nerve cells in the brain, providing an integral link for the well being of the brain and by default, all of humanity. Similarly, this company performs this same function with pharmaceuticals, providing what is required, when needed.

BACKGROUND: Create an intelligible identity for Young Africa Live, a mobile portal platform designed to be a space where young people can talk and learn about critical issues that affects their sex lives. The portal hosts both permanent and dynamic content featuring essential facts around HIV and AIDS; with live chat and guest bloggers, as well as helpline numbers and contact details for referral organisations who can support YAL-users in times of need.
